Welcome!
This guide is aimed to provide you with some additional details about how the importation of your account’s links and options works.
The whole Joturl Team did its best to design and develop a dedicated importer for all Poplink users, which was built to provide you a (as much as possible) smooth migration experience.
We hope our efforts will help you minimizing any issue during the migration process.
To help you understand any detail on how importing works, we've collected all the useful information you need within this article: importation of tracking links, custom and shared domain, retargeting pixels, CTA templates, etc.
Please note that we will not be able to keep your links and options up and running if you decide not to migrate to a JotUrl membership.
Let’s see below how the importer works for each case:
Users
Each Poplink user will be set to a “read-only” status during the migration process. The migration can last from few hours to few days (maximum 3 days), depending on the type of account being transferred. The user will be logged out automatically.
Custom domains
The importation of your Poplink custom domains is limited to the maximum number of domains included within the chosen JotUrl plan. Please take into account that all tracking links related to domains not imported will be ignored by the importer. Thus we suggest to choose a JotUrl plan which includes a number of custom domains higher than the number of custom domains stored in your Poplink account. The problem will be mitigated by automatically offering the user a plan compatible with the necessary resources.
Shared domains
All Poplink shared domains will be made available at the end of the migration process of all users. This choice is due to the fact that any definitive change of the related DNS records, will affect all of Poplink’s users, thus the migration process needs to be 100% completed for all Poplink users.
Retargeting pixels
All retargeting pixels will be imported, however, in JotUrl one can add up to (maximum) 5 pixels to each Tracking Link, thus only the first 5 pixels will remain associated with the respective Tracking Link.
Promotions
Poplink's “Promotions” are named “Projects” within Joturl, thus all “Promotions” will become “Projects” at the time of migration. Poplink allows equal names for promotions, but this doesn't apply to JotUrl. Therefore, during the import, the suffix "-ju#N" (with "N" being a progressive number) will be added to the name of your Promotion when converted to a Project.
Button CTAs (Call-To-Actions)
Poplink’s Button CTAs are compatible with the JotUrl’s Button CTA template, thus they will be imported. However, Poplink admits texts that may be too long for the JotUrl’s CTA template. Furthermore, the brand image used for your CTA will be imported if it’s compatible, otherwise it will be replaced by a white placeholder image. We recommend that you check all of your CTAs once the migration process is complete.
Email CTA
Poplink Mail CTAs are compatible with the JotUrl’s Form CTA template, thus they will be imported. However, Poplink admits texts that may be too long for the JotUrl’s CTA template. Furthermore, the brand image used for your CTA will be imported if it's compatible, otherwise it will be replaced by a white placeholder image. We recommend that you check all of your CTAs once the migration process is complete. Finally, Poplink allows you to connect this type of CTA with MailChimp through OAuth. This service is not compatible with our platform, however JotUrl provides many Webhooks, which can be leveraged to send data to MailChimp. Or alternatively, you can also use our Zapier integration, available within JotUrl’s dashboard. Please find more information at this link.
CTA image
Poplink Image CTAs are not compatible with any of JotUrl’s CTA templates. Despite this, they will be imported and treated as Banner CTAs, within JotUrl. The associated image may be compatible with our banners (which require dimensions of 728x90). If the associated image is not compatible, a white placeholder image will be used. We recommend that you check all of your CTAs once the migration process is complete.
UTM parameters & templates
During the import, UTM templates will be created until the maximum number of templates, included within the chosen JotUrl plan, is reached. Thereafter all UTM parameters will be entered directly into the associated Tracking Link (if there is no corresponding template).
Statistics
Statistics recorded in Poplink will not be imported. However, your data within Poplink will remain available until Poplink is taken offline.
Links
Poplink uses case-sensitive aliases (MyAlias vs. myalias), JotUrl does not. For this reason, all aliases will be converted to lowercase (even if tracking links will work in any case, e.g. pop.link/MYAlias and pop.link/myalias can be used both, since they will both correctly redirect to the destination). In case of duplicate aliases or aliases not compatible with JotUrl, the "_changed_N" text string will be inserted (with N being a random integer). After the import is completed, the original alias will always be indicated within the notes associated to the tracking link, so that you can recognize it.
Finally, all Tracking Links that lead to prohibited or invalid URLs (violating our Terms of Service) will be ignored, thus not imported.
